Attitude of Orthodox Medical Practioners, Herbalists, Hypertensives and Normotensives to Hypertension
ABSTRACT
The problems of attitude to hypertension was the focus of this paper. One
hundred and eigthy adult participants comprising hypertensives (30 males and
30 females): normotensives (30 males) and orthodox medical practitioners (30
males) were administered a 66-item, 5 point attitude scale designed for measuring
attitude to hypertension. The data was analyzed using a one way ANOVA. The
result showed that there was significant difference in attitude to hypertension
among the groups. Tukeys post ANOVA analysis showed that the difference observed
in the ANOVA analysis was mainly between orthodox medical prectitioners and
the rest of the groups. It was pointed out that hypertensives particularly
and orthodox medical practitional should share the same view about patient
tretment. Since differences in attitude to illness between thereapist and
patient may have effect on therapy outcome. It wzas suggested that other therapists
particularly clinical and health spychologist should be involved in conjuction
with orthodox medical practitioners for the management of this disorder.
