Professor Lent is the editor of The International Journal of Comic Art and specializes in international communication with an emphasis on Asia and comic art.
He has published over 30 books and numerous other presentations and articles on comic art, mass culture, and popular culture including Cartoonometer: Taking the Pulse of the World's Cartoonists with Joe Szabo(North Wales, PA: WittyWorld Books, 1994); Comic Books and Comic Strips in the United States: An International Bibliography (Westport, CT: Greenwood Press, 1994);Themes and Issues in Asian Cartooning: Cute, Cheap, Mad and Sexy (Bowling Green, OH: Popular Press, 1999); and, most recently Illustrating Asia: Comics, Humor Magazines, and Picture Books (Honolulu: University of Hawaii Press, and London: Curzon Press, 2001).
