Will Eisner coined the terms sequential art and graphic novel. He is internationally recognized as a comic great for both his comics and his writing on the theory and creation of comics. Eisner’s books and comics include: The Spirit (a 16-page color comic book that was inserted in Sunday newspapers); Army Motors; P*S, The Preventive Maintenance Monthly; A Contract With God; A Life Force, Dropsie Avenue, To the Heart of the Storm , Family Matter and The Name of the Game; Comics and Sequential Art; Graphic Storytelling; Last Day in Vietnam; Fagin the Jew; and others.
Eisner’s teaching included several years at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Perhaps the most prestigious comics industry award, The Eisner, is aptly named after him.
