Alvaro Alemán

Alvaro Alemán is a literature professor in Quito, Ecuador. His research interests are in Literary History, the Ecuadorian poet Jorge Carrera Andrade, popular culture and graphic narrative; with regards to the field of comics, he is currently working on a study of Ex Voto religious iconography and narrative as well as on text-graphics dialogism in the work of Ecuadorian social realist novelists. Alvaro publishes a web journal for his home institution Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) on the place of Liberal Arts in contemporary institutions, you can find it online.

James Fleming

James R. Fleming is an M.A. student at the University of Florida's English Department. He is interested in 19th century British literature; theories and notions of testimony, confession, and witnessing in Romantic English literature; and popular superhero comics.

Travis Fristoe

Bianca Isaki

Bianca Isaki is a PhD candidate in the department of Political Science at the University of Hawai'i and a research fellow of the East-West Center also in Honolulu, Hawai'i. Her dissertation "A time for feminist visual culture: Asian settler radicalism in Hawai'i" is expected to be completed in December 2006.

James McDougall

James McDougall is a Ph.D. student at the University of Florida in the Department of English. His dissertation is on the relationship between Chinese Literature and Modern American Poetry.

Vanessa Raney

Vanessa Raney will be an MA student in English at Southern Connecticut State University this Fall 2005. Her thesis concerns the intersections of autobiographical memory, childhood and trauma in contemporary graphic novels/comics. She can be reached at raneyv2 [at] southernct [dot] edu.
