Gordon Rule Writing Courses
The Department offers many courses on writing for a variety of purposes and audiences. All give Gordon Rule credit; some also satisfy UFs Humanities, International, and Diversity requirements.
ENC 1145: WRITING ABOUT A SPECIAL TOPIC
Uses of writing for thinking creatively and critically about a particular topic: sports, autobiography, the Gothic, aviation, food and culture, gender and culture. Prerequisite: ENC 1101 or SAT 650+ verbal, SAT II in Writing 590+, ACT 29+, AP 3, IB 4. 19 cap. Readings and 6000 words of writing in essays and short writings. (C,H)
ENG 1131: WRITING THROUGH MEDIA
Explorations in the practices of literacy in the context of popular culture, (cinema, television, advertising, popular fiction, and journalism). CRW 1101: BEGINNING FICTION WRITING
Designed to acquaint the student with the craft of fiction. Readings and discussions of works of fiction by published writers and by student writers. Prerequisite: ENC 1101 or SAT 650+ verbal, SAT II in Writing 590+, ACT 29+, AP 3, IB 4. 19 cap. Readings and 6000 words of writing in essays and fiction. (C)
CRW 1301: BEGINNING POETRY WRITING
Designed to acquaint the student with various forms and techniques of poetry. Readings and discussions of works of poetry by published writers and by student writers. Prerequisite: ENC 1101 or SAT 650+ verbal, SAT II in Writing 590+, ACT 29+, AP 3, IB 4. 19 cap. Readings and 6000 words of writing in essays and poetry. (C)
CRW 2100: FICTION WRITING
An intermediate course in the resources and imagination of fiction. Original work by students will be compared with work by representative authors for a deeper understanding of the fictional act. Prerequisite: CRW 1101 or Junior or Senior status. 19 cap. Readings and 6000 words of writing in essays and fiction. (C)
CRW 2300: POETRY WRITING

A survey of the forms and methods of communication in business, industry, and government: nonformal and formal reports, letters and resumes, proposals. ENG 2300: FILM ANALYSIS
