Computers and Writing Working Group
Minutes for CWWG meeting: 21 April, 5:30-7:00pm

Present: B Dilger, S Tripp, L Sullivan, L Ouimet, H Thomas, D Johnson,
         G Fernandes, B Doan, C Rinne, F Young, M Laffey, E Pittman and 
         B Riley.

1> Meetings and CWWG
-Department events are announced late and conflict with our events.
-Solutions:
  -Ask Terry to urge the Department to make a calendar on the website
   a priority.
  -Set a regular time for meetings to increase visibility.
  -Get more professors involved with the group.
  -Make a collective appeal to the Department for a calendar.
  -Ask for a sort of "Grad Study time" when seminars are not scheduled.
     -Schedule Thurs. Evening 5-7pm next semester, establish
      ourselves in that time.

2> Image Lab update.
-The machines aren't working.
-We need someone to start writing a grant to buy new, better machines.
  -Erica will talk to Denise Cummings
  -Brendan will talk to family

3> Assignment Archive
-Joe Bess has written a great script for it.
-Craig Rinne has volunteered to maintain it.
-It should be up within a few weeks. 

4> Should we have a secretary?
-Do we want this group to have officers
-Should we just appoint a minutes-taker for each meeting.
-Minutes-taker should post minutes to list soon after meeting, list
 approves minutes, minutes posted on the CWWG site.

5> Membership
-Introductions of attending members
-Who should be in the group that isn't?

6> SLS Proposal Update
-10 of us submitted - YAY!

7> CCCC report 
-We're doing very valuable work here, we should make an effort to tell
 others about it.  
-Next week is our 4C's proposal meeting - we should try to get LOTS of
 people (including many from outside CWWG) to submit proposals.

8> Summertime
-NWE scheduling questions
  -Should we have a Town Hall to discuss our discouragement at the
   numbers of Grads who want to teach in NWE and aren't able to?
  -Should we write a letter about this issue?
  -Should we ask EGO to look into this issue?
-Bradley will teach a PERL class this summer B
-Training workshops
  -Steph Tripp is planning to offer another Photoshop (those
   interested in PS should email her)
  -Brendan is planning to offer another MOOshop or two
   
-MOO developments this summer will include: more generics, more help pages,
 perhaps the start of the MOOville hackers hour.  -We should hold a
 summer showcase for the work being done in C&W in early September so
 that new people can see what we're working on.

9> Publishing Initiative 
-Anthology ideas
  -Steph and Laura have been tossing around an idea for a manual on
   teaching Electronically
  -The Art for the showcase could begin to be developed into an
   anthological work.
  -A theoretical approach could also be taken to try and encompass the
   NWE's project.  
-Journal information
  -We should develop a database of relevant journals with useful data
   and experiences with their publication procedures.
  -We can include journals from many different fields in this database
  -We can use Scoop software to build a password system on it 
-For now, we should keep discussing the issues around publication through
 our list.

10> Next time
-CCCC proposal meeting next week: Friday, 28 April, 5pm
-Final CCCC proposal meeting sometime before May 15th
-Tentative next CWWG Meeting scheduled for Thurs, 18 May - 5pm.
