Writing Assignment – Bluebook 1
Persepolis – Marjane Satrapi

Purpose:
The purpose of this assignment is to have the student isolate specific segments / chapters in our text for analysis, interpretation, critical thinking and evaluation.

Assignment:
Students write in their test booklets an essay based on the following instructions. Choose a chapter / segment – remember title - NOT from chapters 1 through 5. – Make a print copy of the chapter / segment of the text – which will accompany your writing in your test booklet.

Write a composition in which you briefly summarize the chapter / segment you have chosen. You will then organize the following elements into a discussion of your chapter / segment. Discuss and evaluate the following with reasons and explanations:

politics
history of Iran – historical events
persona – motives – turning point(s) – tension
lesson(s)
humor
cultural aspects in the chapter / segment
religion-manners-ethics-morals-education-money-social structure-Iranian society-ideals
justice-roles of men- women-
information about the characters in the narrative
discussion of the relationship between IMAGE AND TEXT

It should be obvious that perhaps all of the above cannot be discussed in the hour you have for this assignment – therefore, it is suggested that you carefully consider, and organize your discussion (keeping in mind a somewhat lengthy discussion a minimum seven paragraphs) that is most effective for the chapter / segment you have chosen.

Remember to refer to panels / text and inform your reader of their place within your composition. In other words use quotes and picture references in your composition.
Please cite any sources you may use.

Write legibly – booklets that are unreadable will not be graded.
